Congratulations to Russia and Qatar on their successful World Cup bids! A joint collaboration between Grant Thornton firms in UAE and the UK has advised the Qatar 2022 bid committee on its strategy, legacy and socio-economic case.
Hassan Al Thawadi, CEO of Qatar 2022 said: “Grant Thornton’s report helps to quantify the significant commercial and football development opportunities for FIFA and football if the Middle East has the historic opportunity to host the FIFA World Cup in 2022. We can see many millions of new fans participating, watching and consuming football.”
Qatar recorded history in the World Cup. For the first time, the country will host the most prestigious event on the football field, after the FIFA appointed it as the host of the 2022 World Cup.
Thus, after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, the trophy which subsequently contested by various countries from different parts of the world will travel to three continents. The 2014 World Cup will be held in Brazil (America), then to Russia (Europe) in 2018, and to Qatar (Asia) in 2022. That is, Qatar became the second country from the continent of Asia, which gained the confidence to host the World Cup.
